Sometimes, it can hard to focus when we are working on the Internet. Whether it’s managing our time, staying away from distracting sites, or focusing on writing, these tools will help you stay on task for now and the future.
- Many people just use Google for search purposes, but it also has a great calendar system for organizing your daily, weekly, or monthly to-do lists. The month layout by itself is nice for recording activities in the blank spaces and printer-friendly so you can put it on a wall next to you for reminders.
- Todoist is a cool online software program that allows you to sort and organize your tasks in a variety of ways to help you make sure they get done on time. Once downloaded, it’s located on the side or your screen and can be easily opened or closed at any time. Todoist is free and compatible with Firefox and Chrome.
- Focus Booster is a visually appealing software application that functions like a countdown timer. You can set the timer for how long you want it and you can also set breaks in between periods. Also, if you don’t feel like downloading the app onto your desktop, there is an option to use an online version. Look for it at the top of their webpage.
- This is a simple and convenient online countdown timer that requires no download. Simply just go the website, type in how much time you want to work on a task for in the blank space, press GO, and the page will turn into a countdown ticker and it will show up on the tab as well.
- Cold Turkey is a program that you can download for Windows OS. What it essentially does is act like a program that allows you to block any sites you are addicted to for a period of time. Once you go to the selected site, the server will say that it cannot find the site, hence going “cold turkey” and allowing you to focus on your more important tasks for the day. It already comes preloaded with tempting sites to block including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and YouTube.
- Leech Block is an extension for the Firefox web browser (if you prefer not to download a software on your computer). Type in the websites that you want to block and the application will block those sites so that you can’t visit them until a certain time is up — a great app for containing one’s temptation.
- Like Leech Block, Stay Focused is the extension for Google Chrome (also if you prefer not to download a software on your computer). It also allows you to block websites that waste your time and prevents you from visiting those sites until a certain time is up.
Writer: The Internet Typewriter
- This is a really cool online software program for writers. Nothing to download; just go to the site, start typing, and the software will automatically save your document on the spot every few minutes.
- Write Room is an app for the Mac. It is like Word processor, but allows you to write free of distractions.
- This is a new generation internet radio station that plays music related to the songs or artists you already like. If you find yourself doing a boring task, then listening to Pandora’s free radio platform may give you that added stimulation to help you finish the task on time.
